About

Clare is a mixed media artist using watercolour and acrylics combined with her love of textiles. Her canvas is a Merino Wool felted backdrop into which other felts and or paper are agitated together to make a solid form which can be painted on or stitched into.

Her inspiration comes from everyday life – her observation of those around her, the colours and shapes that emerge from her travels , including her walks with her dog –  the contours in the landscape, rivers and especially trees.

The process of felting is to turn loose wool fibers into a dense, matted fabric, using soap and water. The process involves interlocking the wool scales to create an artwork with varying degrees of density and texture. The artworks are formed using an artist eye for form and colour. Clare layers textiles, paper and paint to create the finished pieces.

“My practice is daily .   My starting point is usually a sketch before commencing the artwork, which is then produced quickly and intuitively giving it a strong sense of energy and vitality.”
